Thankyou for taking the time to visit this modest blog. I hope, in time, to produce a small biography of Fitton that will place him in the larger socio-economic context of the period 1868-1923 with specific reference to the cotton industry in Crompton.

I would therefore be delighted if anyone could point me in the direction of materials related to Fitton other than those already stored at the Local Record Centre in Oldham. Loans or views of the 'Chanticleer' or full versions of the 'Guide to Shay' would be particularly helpful.

Reading through 'Gradely Lancashire' again, thirty years on from when I first did so, the provenance of many of the pieces raises interesting questions and I'd be pleased if anyone could help date some of them. I'm particularly interested to explore the possibility of dating work to the cotton disputes before World War One and even the war itself. I'm assuming that some of the poems and sketches must have been produced between 1914-1918 yet it's not always easy to be sure.
